Hobbymat cross slide problem

Wishing to oil the full extent of the slide beds I have accidentally withdrawn the cross slide to the extent that the threaded rod seems to now be disconnected from its location at the far end.

Now turning the handle does nothing. The threaded rod still turns as I can feel it turning under the slide but it produces no traverse.

Are there any nifty trick to connect it?

Usually you can slide the cross slide back by hand until the lead screw meets the nut inside, then by gently turning you can pursuade it to engage. If the gibs are adjusted too tight you may find it difficult to do this, but then they shouldn’t be all that tight.

They leadscrew should go out and in to the leadnut no problem, if you have a taper turning attachment type thingy the leadscrew needs to be disconnected regularly.

 

For general maintenance as well it should be a doddle, screw it out, pull the slide off the saddle for maintenance, then slip it all back together again.

 

As mentioned, slacken up all your adjustments and it should pop right back in, making sure your gib strip is the right way round/fitted correctly(some have locating dimples).

Hi Chippychap, below is a view under the cross slide which shows yor situation, and like John and Ady says, you should just be able to push on the cross slide and then reengage the screw into the nut turning it gently untill the thread picks up again.

Does the leadscrew engage in the saddle as pictured or is the lead nut the other side of the block?

Hi Chippychap, the nut is embeded in the saddle directly in front of the the screw as in the picture above.
