Does anyone on with your horological knowledge know anything about old church gate clocks.I found the information of them it on the internet a few years ago but I can’t find it now.I know of  one in the loft of a village church porch and I would like to see an image of a complete one.

Maybe you should contact the AHS TCG (Antiquarian Horological Society Turret Clock Group). They are focussed on church toewr clocks, but if Church Gate Clocks are a thing, they will know. A google will take you to their website.

Intrigued. Is it just a clock that is in the porch or does it unlock the door? It would save me getting up early a few days a week.

It seems there are innumerable modern churchgate clocks for sale but seems to be just a marketing word. I would imagine that the movements are a large std 3 wheel job or a small turret type although a turret would be a lot more expensive so less likely . And also if no drop would be spring wound!!!

The clock is not in the porch Bazyle but above in the porch loft .It looks like a wooden gate and was I think weight driven. When I took an horological magazine many years ago there was a reference and images ,but unfortunately I gave them to a man who said he was going to restore the clock ,but this did not happen.I did not know the name of the man or his whereabouts to ask him about it.

I have just been through Potts history and nowhere can I find any references to church gate clocks and would have thought that that would be one of the companies that would have been involved in their manufacture

                  Aha !

Browsing the horological archives earlier … I found reference to field-gate clocks.

… the name being more to do with the construction than the location.
