Frustration in taking photos using my Galaxy A20e mobile phone

Hi all – This might not be the most suitable site for such a question but on the other hand I can think of none more helpful. I have a Galaxy model A20e mobile phone and in most respects I am very happy with it except when it comes to using the camera. For some reason which is beyond me it cannot be relied upon to take a photo. In some instances it will work exactly as expected with that reassuring 'click', other times despite how many attempts are made touching the 'take' icon, it will simply not respond. What is going on? Is it a question of an incorrect light setting (which I doubt) or is there some other subtle reason which is preventing the exposure? It is incredibly frustrating and always happens when you have lined up the perfect shot.

My wife had a pad with a camera that stopped working, opened it up and reconnected the plug. That fixed it. You may have a plug that has come loose due to it being knocked a bit or dropped.

Some android phones do not respond well to cold digits. I could not use my earlier Motorola phone when holidaying in Tasmania during winter as I could not keep my fingers warm enough to activate the touch screen after a minute or so of use. I have a similar problem with i-pads and tablets. Maybe I'm a reptile in disguise……? In contrast, my latest phone, a Galaxy S10e, does not seem to demonstrate any such problem (so far, our winter is just starting so maybe it's too early to be sure….)

You may be able to configure the phone app so that a physical button "presses the shutter"; obviously the click can be turned off, too.

Yes, I think you could describe the issue as being a finger problem but with the glorious weather we are having in the UK at the moment it cannot be described as a cold finger problem. The camera 'button' is simply not responding to my finger press, irrespective of whether it is a light or not so light touch or in moments of controlled rage, a stream of repeated finger blows!

GS, Ega is right, I can use the volume control button to trip the camera shutter, and sometimes I too have the problem you describe, but it seems at random.sometimes the shutter will click as I am giving up and move the camera away so I get a nice picture of my feet or somesuch.

Many cameras and phones are configured to only take the photograph when they have achieved focus, or locked focus. This can often be difficult for phone cameras in artificial light. However this locking can often be changed in the settings of the camera phone. Mind you, you will then get many more out of focus photographs.

If you can improve the light you should overcome the problem with achieving focus, even a torch will help

Greensands try dampening your finger, lick it ! then try the button, I have found this seems to work when having similar problems. I have no idea how the touch technology works but this works for me

Captain Obvious here. Have you cleaned the screen properly?

My iPhone has occasional issues with not seeing swipes et al despite the screen looking really clean. Giving it a good go over sorts it. Was annoyed first time it happened because a clean didn't sort it. Eventually decided to have another go.

Clearly its picking something up. Probably shop "grease". I may have to invest in a cover. Allegedly you need to wait a while after using hand cream. Feels fully dry to you isn't fully dry to the phone.

Not all apps respond the same to fingerpoken. Timer and swipe to answer use more or less the same part of teh screen on my phone. Timer is never an issue, swipe to answer is first to glitch.

GS, just had a play with my phone and can confirm that when in camera mode, all external buttons will trigger the shutter, I did not try the home button though.

Chris & GS – Have now checked my phone and yes, I can in fact take a photo using the volume control. Very useful tip! Presumably it needs to be tested under various light/focus-locking conditions to see if this is the complete answer. Interestingly I have not knowingly set up the phone to work in this mode. Is this something to be found under Settings?

But, how good is it as a phone??? and as a camera, why is it soooo difficult to take UK pictures rather than Chinese or Australian photos.?

I have had this problem on my Samsung phone whereby it appears that there is an intermittent problem. I traced it down to literally finger trouble. I found that if my fingers of the hand that was holding the phone encroach onto the screen then the shutter release function sometimes won't work. Prior to discovering this I had put it down to a problem with the phone but in reality the problem was how I was holding the phone.
