Fitting a digital scale to a WM250.

Hello all, has anyone fitted one of these scales to their WM250, and how did you go about it?

I have tried all positions but keep coming back to the same place at the front of the carriage, I know that I will have to fit some sort of cover over it. But it's the initial fitting that is the problem. Any ideas welcome.

Hi Mark, I've not fitted any scales to my WM250V but I'm curious, to which axis are you intending to fit the scale?

Hi Graeme I am thinking of fitting it to the Y axis.I would like to fit it to the left side of the carriage if I can.

Less likely to get knocked on the right hand side. Should be easy to fit, mount scale with tee slots and read head with bracket.

Hello David, I had thought about but the read head will stop the tail stock going up to the carriage.

Modify brackets & read head bracket ( make new ones ?  )  to mount it in the vertical plane, then your tailstock should only go as far as the carriage wings, as normal, your remote readout can be put on the splash back.. or shelf behind… where ever ? … been on my probably do it later list for some time.

George have just offered the read head up to the right hand side of the carriage I think that the gib adjusting screws will get in the way, or am I missing something?

Left hand side will mean you have a lot of additional tool overhang when machining large diameters like flywheels.

Stick it out the back of the cross slide rather than at the side. have a look at JS's post about his Bantum.

Wasn’t there a thread on here sometime ago about this, can’t seem to find it though. Which was JS’s post have searched JS/bantam but nothing comes up.

You could always make spacers & fit hex head gib adj' bolts & use spanner to set gib screws instead of allen key, & still have your DRO in the vertical plane, just another avenue to think about.
