If you use Tee-Pee's (inter-dental brushes) then you will rapidly accumulate lots of the plastic tubes they are supplied in – if you buy them online (as I do). These make very handy small holders/sleeves/protectors for my smaller drills, taps, milling cutters, lathe tools etc. – of which I seem to have a growing quantity & variety.

They in turn, fit quite nicely into the flip-top 'mint' tins that I tend to keep in the car (an addiction I'm afraid) – so can be easily grouped together and the lids (laser) labelled very neatly. The tins (when stood upright) take very little drawer space, are easy to access and also very handy for many other smaller bits and pieces.

      Regards

If you have a lot of draws to line and only need something to stop tools sliding on the smooth draw bases, then van lining/carpet is avaiable from fleabay complete with spray on glue to stick it into the draws with. That's what I used and it seems to work very well.

I used plastic foam sheeting about 10mm thick, cheap, simple and kind to drills/cutters ect.

Also, offcuts of 20mm plastic tube [conduit ] for some of my bigger drills, one end plugged.

          Just an idea !

In the end I went with the non slip rubber mat, think I'll still have to make some dividers of some sort. I had a small roll of Rolson mat so managed to do 5 of the 10 drawers in my new cabinet. I'll fill those drawers tomorrow while I source some more mat. Thanks to all who replied, some really interesting ideas there.

Sorry I've been late replying, as I intended to line a new drawer and supply a photo, but been busy elsewhere.

I'd planned to show a layer of Ikea Anti-Slip carpet underlay on top of a sheet of Brown VCI paper. but one's still rolled up, and the other's in its delivery envelope.

Must start work earlier tomorrow. blush

It's been so cold in the double garage/workshop I decided to insulate the steel roller doors to conserve heat.
                **LINK**

There was enough of the insulation left over to line several drawers.
The material is a sandwich of expanded polyethylene foam bonded between two layers of tough aluminium foil.
This can be easily cut with a knife to whatever shape to provide recesses for milling cutters, lathe tools etc.
Furthermore, it's now much easier to keep the area warm enough to resume work !
(Usual disclaimer with respect to the above supplier).

Doesn’t stop the rattling about, but I’ve some 2mm rubber (EDPM) offcut from reroofing my outhouse.

A friend depended on such mints while giving up smoking. He gave me over 20 empty tubes which I store my resistors in.

Glad I didn't have to eat them all as 'excessive consumption may have laxative effects'…

Machine Mart emailed this morning, looked interesting until I saw the price. https://www.machinemart.co.uk/c/storage-accessories/?Brand=shadow-foam Colin
