I have used a lathe of that sort of age. It was at the back of what was called box bench where I was trained. It had been there for as long as the building had and scarcely ever used. The finish was amazing and the sounds of the flat belts running was pretty good too. There is something sexy about the noise of the joints going over the pulleys.
Box Bench – well it started with a 4in cube of steel and a hand file. It finishes up as a just under a 2in perfect cube. Later we made our tool makers chest out of sheet steel. Hence box bench.
