I've just found these useful Machining Instructions for various Engineering Plastics.

      … Handy for reference.

Also, this datasheet for PEEK   [one of many, on MatWeb]

        Hello folks,

Have just completed the collet chuck for collets larger than ER40 I was originally going to use EN16 but got some steel used for downhole tools as It was already made with a 50 mm bore so not so much to bore out. The steel is very strong ,but nice to cut and has a high pitched "Ting" when struck. My initial fears about grip have so far proved unfounded, as using a test collet of rigid pvc the grip is very firm . I also have total repeatability if I remove the collet and then replace it.. I tested the grip by threading a piece of EN16 at a pitch of 1.50mm and no slippage, the first threading pass was 0.25 deep straight in feed ,no approaching at 29deg. the test piece was held for a length of 12mm. When the Nylon arrives it should prove even better.

The rubber bands on the closing ring are to give me more grip as my clamp knurler only does up to a max Ø of 60mm . I will make a larger knurler to complete the job.

This chuck is held in the 4 jaw independant chuck, the next one will have it's own D1-5 CAMLOK backplate.. Once the nylon arrives I will knock up about a dozen collets ready for use [but unbored]

        Best wishes,

        Raymond.

          Cheers,
