      Hi

I bought a CZ bender today  https://www.model-engineer.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/sites/4/images/member_albums/93892/558708.jpg and its missing a few bits.

I think 7, 9, 14 are missing.  I can work out what 14 is like. But could do with some ideas what 7 and 9 are like. Is there anyone who will give me some hints/ dimensions please?

      Thanks

      George

If you were to provide a location, there may be someone very local who could show you ‘in the metal’.

9 and 10 are just a pair of collars to fit the top and bottom mandrel holes in the frame so that you can use 4, 5 and 6:

Mine were missing too so I made the above (I didn’t have the article you link to, so just had to guess what it was like) – I could give you the dimensions tomorrow, but you’re probably better off making them to fit your parts.

I have to say, despite the suggestions in the article, I’ve always found this thing incredibly difficult to use – a shame, because it seems like it would be a useful bit of kit, given adequate instructions.

            Hi, Thanks

Im in North Manchester which may help me find one to look at.

Now I think I’m missing 9 (& 14) so dimensions from Andy will give me a lead please.

              Andy

Having bought mine shortly after they became available (late 1970’s early 1980’s perhaps) and more or less got the hang of things by trial and error my reaction was to the article was pretty much “Now he tells me!”.

This is what I made to replace parts 9 and 10 (approximately – I used a separate nut on the end of part 10, possibly because I was just using up a bar end. The 19.86mm dimension is for a nominal 20, I suppose):

Part 14 is whatever size you want it to be for the pipe diameter and desired radius you’re using.

Clive – yes, pretty much the same for me, though I never had the patience to figure out how they did some of the complicated multiple bends in the original adverts.

I’ve never sussed out those complicated shapes, either.  Mine has mostly been used for fairly simple shapes and only very occasionally – often over a year between it coming out of its box.  The first is always a chore, but iterations are so much easier, once that first example has been sorted out!
