      Hi,

Does anyone out there have a Centec 2b horizontal drop arm/ plate and arbour for sale, or could anyone who has one sketch out some dimensions for me so I can make one ?

      Any help much appreciated.

Do you mean the arbor support from the overarm? Nothing special. A slide-way to fit the overarm, a gib to lock it in position, or a slit and pinch bolt to secure it. A hole on centre line at the height of the horizontal drive and a bearing to suit. An oilite bearing may well be adequate but something tougher may be needed for heavy radial loading. A means of lubrication can easily be devised, I would think.

Don't restrict to 2B. 2 and 2A will be the same, I would expect.

Have a look on the quillstar.co.uk used tools site, and scroll down to the very bottom of the page. Currently they show a pallet load of Centec parts which includes an overarm with an arbor support. You might want to give them a call to see if its compatible with your needs.

Many thanks for the replies so far, I've sent an enquiry to Quillstar.

Very many thanks for the pictures Gary, it does look like a dead easy piece to make.

I could knock out an identical copy on my little CNC mill easily.

What is the bearing size Gary ?

Scaling up from your drawing it looks like 3/4" O.D. 1/2" I.D. is that right ?

Also what is the thread on the end of the arbour for the lock nut out of interest, and is it L>H. or RH thread ?

                  Any help much appreciated.

Some mt2 arbors do not have a spigot, but are designed to run in a ball race and therefore run on one of the last spacers.

                    get your arbour first

The 2B arm will fit the smaller 2 and 2A but they are longer (you shove the excess out the back) The 2 arm won't cover the full table travel of the 2B the 2a arm might..

The arm from a 2C will not fit at all

These are the dimension of my 2B arbour.

That's absolutely terrific Gary, thank you so much.

I'll definitely go ahead now and make the parts.

Measured up my overarm and it looks like the correct one for my machine.

Got an accurate figure of 3.7/16" from the spindle centre to the arm mating face, so can go ahead now.

Very many thanks again I'm very grateful.

                        Watch this space !

                        Nick

If you're in any doubt on the position of the bearing hole you could make up the drop arm thing, then bolt a toolmakers button on, fit to the overarm, clock the button true to the spindle and then set up off that to bore the hole

Nick, where in the country are you?

If it's within sensible travelling distance of Buxton Derbyshire, come and look at one in the flesh and drink coffee.

                            Regards

                            Bill

Thanks for the offer Bill, but sadly I'm in Mid Wales !

However I do go motorcycle racing at Darley Moor Circuit occasionally…… well to watch the Classic 50cc racing club anyway !

If I'm up your way I'll give you a shout.

Please do, you'll be most welcome. Not be to that circuit for years, but looking forward to a re-visit with a camera sometime this summer.

A friend of mine used to race them years ago, apparently peak power @ 16,000rpm but engine expired @ 16.600rpm
