Thought I would start a new thread, that may bring forward some interesting bodges.

      Boxford 8" Shaper:

When I was cleaning decades of crud off of the the machine, I was puzzled as to why none of my spanners managed to get a firm hold of the bolt, that's inside the box table, that holds the vice down.

Well, after numerous tries with all the spanners of appropriate size I had, it eventually succumed, and this is what I discovered.

No surprise then, that spanners weren't able to perform their designed duty.

      More in My Photos.

Hope my first attempt at putting a photo in with the thread works.

(OK it doesn't work, so back to the drawing board. I love technology!)
#2 (Insert doesn't appear to work with my iPad – Help please)

Geoff – Post Office beckons as parcel awaits me.

I managed to bodge a contraption to enable me to mill, on the lathe, 1/3 of a turn of a helix into the face of a disc. The end product was a cam to lift something up as the disc was rotated.

Materials: a QCTP boring bar holder, an old spindle from my Perris lathe, an electric drill and a flexible driveshaft for same.

I'm lazy; full story with pics here, on the MadModder forum. No membership needed to view.

I am suprised that a pair of calipers could cause such damage !!

LOL, everything I do is a bodge one way or another Take this fine example today of how to slice the end off a workpiece that was too short. No chance of parting it in the lathe – apart from bieng too thin to hold securely this stuff is stainless steel and not too friendly with parting tools.

                  Chris,

I gave in and fitted an M8 bolt in a threaded hole in the clamp piece of my bandsaw.
