Hi can any one help i have heard that their are new changes to Black 5 Boiler IE bridges on top of firebox as i am going to get a new boiler made but would like to get any updated added before i submit any drawings for it.

I am sure some one will know how to find the updates to latest design of Don Young's boiler that i have the drawing's of for my Boiler please

Hi Ron

Our boiler inspectors now prefer to see Rod Stays in place of the Girder Stays the advantage being that you know when the silver solder has fully penetrated and there is no risk of dry spots at the front end of the girder stay. In addition the fitting of the rod stays is far simpler than girder stays in that there is no gap to maintain. Both my Simplex and Pansy boilers are done this way. Using rod stays, a doubler plate – the same thickness as the firebox wrapper – over the top of the firebox is good practice drill some large holes in the centre to be able to feed silver solder into.

Thank you i had heard that their where differences' and was not sure what they where.

I would think being a CE boiler maker they should already know these update's

I am going to use Linx in Mabelthorpe they seem very Professional

Does anyone know how good their Boilers are please.

Well at last sorted my Boiler Problem out!!!!!

Went to GB Boilers at Bedworth and paid the fist £500 on a Brand New CE Boiler.

Be ready in about 4 months he had a black 5 just finished it looked really good.

It was very neatly made professionally silver soldered everything as it should be.

All Holes drilled and tapped exited at least the boiler will to the same standard as rest of Loco my Uncle had made.

Exited to get it into steam now.
