I'd agree with Neil – good old Servisol switch cleaner is marvellous stuff for dodgy switches, noisy pots etc. It's available from CPC for under £4. I expect it has very similar ingredients to Deoxit – a mild acid to clean oxidation and an oily carrier to exclude contaminants and provide lubrication.

Stop press- have ordered deoxit gold- £6.95 for a little tube but should go a long way.
