No real difference than any supermarket loyalty card, your bank account, your mobile phone, your everything. Big brother is watching us more and more.

partly so your name + address can be checked against TV licences – however the key reason is to allow ‘personalised’ adverts – just look at the MB and its crossfeeds to farcebook + google both wch hold databases of virtually the whole population

Some retailers use a security device called "captcha"

I wonder if they know that it's been busted?

How long b4 the crooks misuse it?

If you really don't want to disclose who/where you are do a web search for accommodation address

Just lie! How would they know?

Just lie! How would they know?

By cross-referencing that information and finding a mismatch with other data held for that person or address? Computers are good at flagging up anomalies like that. If you are a proven liar, then any other evidence you may provide af any other time would be questionable.

Talk about Big Brother being able to see everything we do; I heard a story and I don't know if it's true but no reason to doubt it. HMRC were pursuing an individual because they knew that he was receiving far more income than he was declaring, they tried every means to find out his true income but were unsuccessful, eventually they obtained details of his loyalty card that he used at a major name supermarket and by obtaining the required authority to access their records they found that he spent more at the supermarket than he had declared as his total income, Gotcha!!! Loyalty cards when analysed tell a great deal about our way of life, we leave our digital footprints everywhere and there are those whose job it is to read them and amass data about us all.

I don't use any social media, no online banking, use a debit card don't have a credit card, no loans and yet I am still amazed the information that seems to be stolen by various bodies. People are selling my information to third parties, I generated this info it's mine if they want to sell it ask me first and pay me if I say yes. The only good news is trying to access the government gateway for a tax question apparently I don't exist ( my tax still gets took)one page said it was checking my credit reference then told me couldn't verify my identity and didn't allow me in, I have been using this gateway for some years okay to submit my self assessment forms, who knows what goes on !!!!!

Banks must sell a lot of our info

When my income dropped almost to zero so did all those strange unsolicited letters

They must group us into different income brackets and sell our personal info to direct mailshot organisations
