Does anyone have an Archdale 18” Verticle Miller? I’m after a photograph of the coolant pump arrangement, mine is missing and looking at fitting a belt driven retro pump.

Yes Brian, nothing there. I have found a couple photos on line, but the pumps are missing of these millers too. Thanks.

There is one pic on ‘goggle’ images that specifically mentions cooling pump.

There's a name from the past, I used to maintain Archdale rotary deep hole drilling machines, massive machines.

                      Tony,

Just out of idle curiosity, I followed up NDIY's lead and it took me to the Traction Talk forum. One "Steamlad1" was selling, in 2014 mind you, an Archdale 18" mill with single phase coolant pump. It even gives an email contact address and mobile number. If you're feeling particularly cheeky, you could try contacting him to see if he can assist with your enquiry. He may even know the current whereabouts of the machine, assuming it sold. Here's the direct link to the web site:

The suds pump on the Archadale 18” originally was belt driven from the main motor. the flow of suds is controlled by a simple valve (my pipework is still present) The pump runs continuously with I would think a pressure relief valve back to the reservoir for excess suds? If Steamlads Archdale has a single phase mother I would tend to think it has been modified or a different model to mine. But it is worth a try, I’ll drop him an email. Many thanks.

                          Tony,

I hadn't appreciated that the machine only had one motor, in which case the original posting could be read such that the machine as a whole had been converted to single phase. Good luck.

PRV? I would have thought a suds pump would not be a positive displacement type – pumping possible abrasive solids would do it no good at all. More likely an impeller type with a simple bypass.
