Any one recommend a supplier of 1/4 inch lathe blanks

Hi, Any one recommend a good supplier in terms of price and quality of HSS 1/4 inch blanks for lgrinding into.athe cutters?

I've just purchased from Tracy Tools where they sell for a nominal quid each, plus postage, and they arrive within about 36 hours.

I haven't used 'em yet, but AFAIK Tracy are a very well-regarded supplier and I'd expect them to be of good quality.

Arc Eurotrade or Tracy tools sell them, I have purchased toolbits from both companies and have no complaints.

I got some 8% Cobalt HSS from Cromwell Tools. They were on special offer at the time so very reasonably priced.

I can't speak for all suppliers, but if you definitely need 1/4", make sure you don't end up with 6mm.
I appreciate that ArcEurotrade do list both, but I've been supplied with the wrong ones in the past, but not I should add by Ketan at Arc

MSC J&L have them on offer at the moment (till end of August) The 10% cobalt are £2.52 plus vat etc.

Just a word of warning re Tracy tools, If you're in the area of the shop, under NO CIRCUMSTANCES should you call in. They have a special kind of magnet fastened to their shelves which attracts ALL denominations of currency be it coin, paper OR plastic.

A singed customer. (and Yorkshireman at that)

Just as well they're way beyond calling distance for me. I got away with 3 HSS tool blanks and a 6,8mm drill for a tenner including postage, bought online.

All tool shops should be entered with great caution, even if you just enter for a browse you will find it very difficult to leave without a purchase. Tools are worse than kittens and puppies for wanting to go home with you.
