I i know nothing about taking motors apart or what to look for . I mentioned this on Sean`s other thread about his hoover motor.

Ive taken the end caps off and slid the rotor ? out as far as the wires will allow.

The capacitor blew on this motor .I must have binned the capacitor so dont know what size it needs.

I have no idea what im looking at ,but i assume the thing with springs on is the centrifugal switch.

I noticed what to me looks like a hell of alot of grease everywhere. A bit black inside but not full of swarf or much that i can see. Ive added a load of pictures to an album entitled hoover motor.

      Any advice appreciated .

      Thanks

the windings at the drive end look a bit cooked, unless that is just dirt! before you go any further get a local friendly sparks to megger test the windings, if they prove ok, clean and check the bearings, and replace or repack with grease. Check the centrifugal switch mechanism is free, and check and clean the contacts on the switch itself, and check it opens and closes, put it back together, pop it down to your local motor repair shop, and you should get a capacitor for under a tenner. Dont worry about not knowing the size, it is not that critical, and they will know, but no point in doing any of this till you have had the windings teeted and know they are good!
