A man was killed near us two days ago after he left a petanque ball (a steel bowling ball about 3 in diameter) in the barbecue. It was heated to white hot (sic.) and exploded. A white hot piece of metal was embedded in his cranium and killed him.

I have a small anvil from one of the ( long gone ) forges in the village i grew up in .. A very old wrought iron one with hardened face. I bought it from an elderly villager who'd claimed it when the forge was demolished in the 50's .

The story that came with it ,was that the resident smith one day was working at the anvil , with a boy striking for him with a sledge hammer ..double hammering.. and the head of the sledge came off , and embedded itself into the smiths head …and he lived for 3 days .. surprise
