I just used to hold an ER collet chuck in some soft jaws.

I really can't see an advantage to how this is shown.

I don't think it's an attempt to improve accuracy but more about being able to change sizes quickly and positional consistency. However, I suspect it's probably very accurate also since the soft jaws by their nature hold very accurate tolerance when holding at the position they were machined at.

Once again if you read the link you will see in this instance he has 250 of those brass tubes to machine and the setup allows the material autofeed to be used rather than having to stand by the machine to undo and tighten an ER Collet 250 times

It is a easy way to have an auto collet closer using the 3 jaw chuck.

He says he uses through coolant collets so slots are sealed

I am not sure I understand what you mean by 'sealed'

Your photo below shows normal slit collets – where is the sealed slots? My query was re swarf entering the three jaw to collet contact area,ie the collet taper surface. The 3 jaws have space between them where swarf could enter and when the 3jaw retracts to decompress the collet, swarf can enter the gap, enter the collet slit, or the collet to soft-jaw contact area, upsetting TIR surely..?
