      where is best place to put coolant when drilling on lathe?

      is it better running over workpiece or end where im drilling so it cools bit as i draw it out to clear swarf?

          Have it playing on the point of entry that way some will find its way down the hole and cool the cutting tip and flush some muck out, not much point on playing it on the outside if you were say drilling a 1/4" hole in a bit of 3" bar

            Think of tooling that has holes down the center to cool the cutting edge and then do as Jason suggests, play it at the cutting point.

                On a manual. .cool the drill sharp end. .thus only works when drill withdrawn. .for long holes more than 3 * diameter you need to wood peck hole
                ..coolant set to wash face of part and thus hole..drill gets rinsed cooled and hole gets flooded ..if you try to flood down the hole you will keep the swarf trapped against the spiral action of the flutes..

                For deep hole drilling through drill coolant is used..washing swarf out and cooling in one. ..a bit out of model users league

                  Stretching the topic just a little:

                  When CNC boring thin-walled Aluminium tubes to size; a previous employer expended a great deal of effort optimising the flow-rate of the coolant … effectively preventing chatter by damping the vibrations.

                  It worked beautifully.
