I keep an eye out for machine tools on TV. This example is 23 minutes into 'The Score'. It's background in the workshop of the master criminal played by Robert de Niro.

Anyone recognise it?

Considering the lathe is only in view for about 30 seconds, someone went to a fair bit of trouble to make it look good. There's an air-line, gloves, ear-protectors, peg-board, dodgy shelving, dirt, lamp, wiring and junk under the stand. Quite realistic compared with Howard's Big Bang Theory lab where the kit looks unused. They're not very consistent about scene setting either. It moves about between episodes.

Robert de Niro's man-cave is accessed through a secret door in his lavatory. It's not explained how a heavy lathe was manoeuvred at right angles through the smallest room in the house.

Inside the workshop the action focuses on the impossibility of drilling a hardened steel safe door fitted with a glass auto-locking mechanism. Looked authentic to me. When later in the film he pulls the job, he uses an oxygen lance to cut a small hole in the roof of the safe, fills it with water from the sprinkler system, and then lowers a small stick of dynamite into the centre of the safe. When it goes bang, the safe inflates like a balloon and the door pops off in a shower of water. I think that would work too! Fortunately the item being stolen was shock-proof. Surely most valuables in a safe would be badly mangled if you opened it that way! Any safe-cracking experts on the forum?
