I need to make, or buy, a miniature pressure regulator to reduce the pressure from a 16 gram sparklets co2 bottle (liquid co2 is about 850 psi or 58 Bar) to 90 psi or 6 Bar. The regulator needs to be small.

Can anyone help with the design or offer a suitable source of such a regulator.

I found a possible supplier in the States, it was not cheap, but the cost of shipping and customs duty would then double the price.

        Thanks

        Mike

          Mike,

Here is something very small … but probably not cheap

Airgun and Paintball regulators are pretty small, not too hard to make and there's plenty of info/designs out there such as

            **LINK** and **LINK**

sorry another hobby blinded me, you probably want a constant one not an intermitttent.

**LINK** (or any other bike shop)

Not 100% sure if any of these are regulated regardless of price or if, as I suspect, it's just a case of an application of Boyle's law. (It's certainly possible to overpressure a small diameter road racing tube rather than a fat mountain bike one)

Thanks for all the advice and help

Martin, the bike tyre inflation valve do not regulate, they simply dump the contents into the tyre

Michael G These are the smallest pressure regulators ever, but the price is astronomic.

Mick B The paintball regulators look to be exactly what I am searching for. Do you have any further design details so I can attempt to build one without to many iterations?

                Thanks

                  Mike,

There are some here. Some of these appear to be flow regulators rather than pressure. I'd be cautious about the paintball option, it would seem these use a pressurised air reservoir, whereas as you know, CO2 is stored as a liquid.

                  HTH (a bit)

                    Mike,

Do you want a flow regulator or pressure regulator?

The paintball description is a pressure regulator but the others shown are flow regulators. The difference being a flow regulator will match the inlet pressure if the outlet flow is shut off, but a pressure regulator will hold the 6 bar you require.

I make some pressure regulators for another hobby as there is no equivalent that can handle the flow rates we require, without freezing up.

Will post some pictures if any one is interested. You are welcome to the plans – have tried to get them made elsewhere but with no success. They are about 75mm x Ø30 and weigh 100grams.

                    Trevor

                      Thanks again everybody.

It is definitely a pressure regulator that I wish to build. I wish to achieve a reasonably constant 6 bar pressure and will only consume the C02 intermittently. so freezing up of the bottle may not be a such a problem for me.

I have found several diagrams of paintball pressure regulators, but they do not give the important information such as control spring sizes and rates.

Trevor I would appreciate a look at your pressure regulator plans, I am sure they would be a perfect starting point. I will message you with my e-mail address.

                      Thanks

                      Mike

                        Ooops !!

Inserted a clip of Neil's post … but it's messed-up the page layout.

I have tried, and failed, to edit it out … I can delete the content, but it leaves the "frames" in place.

Would a Moderator kindly attend to this.

I think this is the complete text of Neil's post.

                          "

                          Use-of-magnetic-chucks-for-milling-and-turning

It does take me a while to do this, but I don't mind putting up articles like that from time to time. If anyone is interested in having a file or files hosted in this way, please email me with the details."

If you highlight the text that is partly masked by the adverts, copy it then past it to Notepad it seems to copy most of the hidden part as well as the visible part. When I did this the only bit is missed was the last 3 letters of "details"

                          Les.

Strangely; although I highlighted only the text of Neil's post [plus the date-stamp above it]: When I pasted it in, the left box [with Neil's smiling face, etc.] was inserted too.

Having sucessfully refurbed three LPG regulators and seen how they work, I must admit I have mused on making a small two-stage butane regulator on the same lines..
