have you seen this.
If you look at Jacques video there is a diagram after 30 seconds. You just need to make the arm ABC with a right angle at B so that when the whole thing is rotated 90 degrees clockwise the other arm CE will be pulling in the direction BA thus moving the tool holder inwards. The tool will be mounted at 90 degrees to its current position.
Jacques has posted before on this site so might try the alternative arangement for you. His version was described in ME April 2006 issue 4270.
Possibly the reason nobody has details of using it for tapers is that it is so much easier just to use the topslide.
