ER Collet chuck for Myford ML7R

A while back I purchased an ER25 collet chuck for my Myford – the single piece type which screws onto the headstock spindle. The runout was terrible at > 0.05mm so I returned it.

I have an MT2 / ER25 chuck but this has the disadvantage of not being able to hold long stock going through the headstock,

I used to own a Chinese Mini Lathe and that was fitted with an ER25 collet chuck and it was really accurate with <0.01mm runout.

I really want a good ER25 collet chuck which I can screw onto the headstock spindle and was wondering if this option from RDG would be a good option: Chuck link

If I machined the backplate carefully would I achieve a repeatable low runout, or are my expectations for this mounting too high?

A few months ago I bought a 2 piece ER32 collet chuck assembly from Myford Ltd and it's excellent, strangely though I can't find it on the website now but they do have the same type in your required size.

'ER25 Collet nose adaptor assembly 20/294' , sorry about the link I don't know how to post short ones.

Hi Mark I purchased an ER32 collet check from RDG for a Grayson Lathe which has an identical spindle nose to the Myford and that was very accurate. I have since machined a back plate for a Boxford which I have attached the ER32 Collet chuck to and that is also very accurate. So in answer to your question yes you can machine a new backplate.
