      Hello all.

Got to the part on my LBSC 'Rainhill' where the 'words and music' are telling me to countersink various holes,

I notice there are various sizes of 90 degree countersink on Kennions site, ranging from 5.3 to 12.4mm.

Any recommendation on which size would be best for small jobs like this?

      Many thanks

      G.

Not sure that I am that patriotic. Personally, THIS might be my choice – particularly if I wanted more than one size.

Although I get along fine with 4, two big & two small one each angle, objectively, one of the sets suggested by NDIY is the way to go. Or both if funds permit and you have the needs.

Using a larger one for a smaller size eventually wears the cutting edge so as to produce a slight ridge in a bigger one. Not the easiest things for Home Shop Guy (or Gal) to sharpen either, especially when the shape has become imperfect.

I suspect an Arc set will go many years before you need to think about sharpening.

The other thing you need for good results is a table of countersink depths. Uneven depths look horrible and, even if tiny, are very visible. I imagine another poster will be able to give a link. I have some slide rules from Unbrako that include those details.

For home shop metal workers single flute ones rule. All the other types tend, in practice, to suck in greater or lesser degree. Hole thru the middle types do work well if given appropriately aggressive feed on a stiff machine.

Thank you for the info chaps. Gratefully received.

As for depths, I have the time to 'do a bit, try it, do a bit more, try it' and so on. I'm not in a production environment so I can take time, so not so worried about perfection, as long as it's in my bounds of 'that'll do for me'
