Hi. I recently picked one of these up from my local tool dealer, at a price I was very happy with. It seems to be well made and is certainly of sufficient capacity to do all the surface grinding I expect to need (famous last words).

One thing surprises me, however. The wheel that it came with is a very coarse grit, is dark brown in colour and looks like the sort that I would expect to find on a straight pneumatic grinder!

I've used conventional surface grinders before and they have been fitted with a white or blue alumina wheel with a vitrified bond. Also, I've seen but never used a swing grinder. Can't recall just what the wheels on those were like but they certainly never stood out as odd!

Can anyone advise me what wheel M E S originally supplied or specified?

Hello Mike,

You need to choose the wheel according to the sort of work you want to carry out, rather than to the machine.

You do need a courser wheel on these type of machine than a conventional grinder because they have more contact in touch with the work, remove more metal and can clog far easier.

I have a big commercial swing grinder and if I fit anything finer to it that the one fitted, which incidentally looks like a breeze block it over heats, and just burns the work.
