Dead easy to do on Chippies same as most other English lathes they have at least two flats on rear for taper turn attachemnts. Screw scale on them usually without the need for shims, its English quality. Normal C type glass scale with cover.

Bracing and protection from swarf build up when over 18" high saves it dislodging cables.

Cross slide easier than most get the magnetic and mount reader outboard. Will lose around 1/4" as tail stock butts up to cross slide. Readers under the top aluminium plate level with coolant upright no need to go this far.

Tailstock will need to make up a clamp to go round quill.
Don't need to go to this extent.

3 axis on mill also all C type glass.
