Hi, My first post here so Hi toi you all. I have an Elliott Juniormill I bought last year. Amongst the very long list of problems it had/has is the Y direction Gib Strip, when I first put it together I found the y dirction was very stiff, so I loosened the strip to find it had been packed out with a bit of shim.

If there is anyone out there that can give me the dimensions for the gib so I can fabricate a new one I would be extreemely grateful.

      Ian

Shimming Gib strips is common on older/worn machines and it works. Have you established why it is tight ? The shim will not cause tightness, maybe the slides need some re-scraping or the lead screw is worn in the middle and tight on the ends. Most machines end up like that.
