I think it is about the locomotive not the region of the UK that we southerners have to massively subsidise.

Do you honestly believe that Westminster would give more than $1 to a place that England didn't need????

That money is strategic welfare and cheaper than trying to man a hard border between two foreign countries

Plus it means England doesn't become the most overpopulated country in the EU, losing 33% of its land mass overnight

There's nowt left up here because after the 1978 Independence referendum the entire country was de-industrialised

Steel shipbuilding etc etc they moved the entire ballgame south, all of it

The furthest North any industrial investment has got since 1978 is the Nissan plant in Sunderland

There are two things left here kiddo, both are impossible to move south, whisky and oil

Plus a few military bits and bobs, all of which can be abandoned within 12 months, apart from the nucular subs base

I like being British and I'm proud of being a Brit and we're lucky that Scotland is run by a bunch of complete and utter wallies or that country would be long gone from the UK

Even Iceland can balance its books but the muppet show in Holyrood is a farce of fools beyond belief

Blimey! I didn't think my comments about 60103 (not the country north of the border) would cause such a political storm. IMO had the academics left its restoration to the artisans in the first place much less money would have been spent to get it to where it is now.

It sort of rewrote history in terms of the first computer and revealed just how long it was used after the war.

Concords biggest problem initially was an interesting one – quote from the wiki

Later the fuel crisis took it's toll but the above cancelled a lot of orders. I happened to be working at a Lucas Aerospace plant when it flew round the country passing low over runways where it couldn't land. So I have probably been a lot closer to it in flight than many and it didn't seem to be that noisy to me. The plants fence wasn't that far from the runway. The makers not wanting to carry on supporting it finally finished it off. The crash would have helped too.
