Well had to shoot out this morning straight from home and didn't get back until 1:30 and this was waiting for me on the yard.

The bit covered with the blue tarp. Big pallet 5' x 5' x 8' full of hardwood offcuts from the local furniture place, free of charge and delivered free.

Fired up Lucifer the wood burning stove.

And this is the result 2 hours later.

Bear in mind this is heating two shops, other shop is too far away to get any decent heat and that's only got a couple of machines, all the welding gear and about 4 tonnes of steel stock.

      Luverly jubbly.

        Hi

Wish my outside workshop where that warm in the winter

I have lot of problem to use my workshop in the coldest part of the winter.

Today I have -3˚C on the floor and +10˚C 1.5 meter up, in the middel of the workshop

        It is -20˚ outside today

        I have one electric oven ( 2000w ) and one electric frostguard oven ( 400w )

I do supply with å small gas oven in daytime on the coldest days

My outside workshop is aproximate 2.8 meter X 1.8 meter in size

15 cm insulation in the walls and floor is not enough to keep the workshop warm

Next summer I will need to re-insulate the floor, as I do beliv the floor is the biggest problem when the temperature do creep down to -20˚ or even low as -30˚

Hope the summer will arrive early this year.

Wish i had more room, absolutely not an inch of wall space available floor to ceiling and above. Already left a load of stuff outside just bare minimum inside for use. If had a room would jump at chance of a log burner.

Had to make do with a big thermostatic oil filled rad on lowest setting. Reason being too much current draw when lathes and compressors etc start up. For that reason just ordered a Calorgas portable heater but will still use elecric oil filled.

The condensation from one of these 'little devil' propane heaters is a real problem, one of the workshops I used to inhabit had one and even the wooden doors ran with moisture on cold damp mornings when it was running, a change to a small wood burning stove eliminated the problem and made the workshop warmer and saved money. A small dimplex 800w storage heater works quite well.

True agree we had a Little Devil propane heater in a workshop some years back. 8am to 1pm used almost 15kg worth of propane! On and off about  one hour could only make 15kg last two days. Smelt of fumes as well, needs ventilation and only had a slight bit of moisture. Gaffer soon confiscated as using then £12.5 a part to day to warm.

Calor Gas butane portable heater three days in delivered with full 15kg butane £29.50 and contract £34.25 all in £115 delivered. I can get the butane cheap. http://www.calor.co.uk/shop/product/campingaz-ir-5000-infra-red-portable-heater-with-gas/736/

No condensation, even had a sweat on yesterday whilst it was snowing. Easy to start and gone are those times waiting 3 or 4hrs to warm up enough to go in.

Combine that with a thermostatic oil filled 1200W left on low and away you go. Nice to sit on as well.
