I fear that you are right, Mark. Only time will tell. Philosophically I suppose, it will still be a considerable discount on a machine I wasn't intending to buy! Every cloud, and all that! I'm already £150 into it for a DeWalt router.

As far as I'm aware, most if not all jurisdictions assess duty and taxes on the value of goods, not the price paid per se.

Normally, the price paid will be taken as representative of the value, but if you didn't pay anything …..

I won a set of Japanese saws on an Australian woodworking site in a competition and I was charged when they arrived here. So expect the same not what you wanted to hear I know

Nothing political about it if its a fact! I sent five boulers to the eu, two via hermes, one via dpd and two via ups, cost including insurance nearly £400. One got there, the rest ended up on my doorstep, no explaination, no refund, nothing! All paperwork present and correct. My business is all but killed.

I received a toolholder set from PeWeTools last week. The charges levied were 2.5% import duty and 20% VAT.

I have the same problem in reverse. It is expensive and uncertain to have anything from delivered by courier from the U.K.

Small items that can be sent by Royal Mail and are valued at less than €43 arrive here in France by La Poste with no fees or VAT to pay if it is to a private address. Doesn't help Fizzy though.

Did Peter/Pewe sell them without the VAT at his end?

                  Asking for a friend…

Apologies Mark, I have only just seen your post. Yes they were sold without VAT. The delivery was sent via DHL then transferred to Parcel Force who add a £12 handling charge.

The total charge was PeWeTools with no vat + £12 handling + 2.5% duty and 20% vat on the PeWeTools cost.

Thanks for that. I might have to raid the piggy bank for some replacements now!
