One thing I found different between tungsten halogen and LEDs, both the tungsten halogen and the LEDs which replaced them in our kitchen are dimmable, now when the tungsten halogen were dimmed besides the quantity of light being reduced the colour temperature changes and at their dimmest they are dull orange, the LEDs which are cool white stay the same same colour and at their dimmest it's a bit like moonlight, I'm very pleased with them.

I'm not helped by a supply voltage very close to the maximum.

I've always fancied having a big old meter on the wall reading the supply voltage.

As for life… my dad had a carbon filament bulb in an upstairs room at his shop, several decades old, that still worked.

I reckon shortening of lamp bulbs is due to all this new-fangled green wind generated lectric, bulbs and lamps are made to work on old fashioned non politically correct made electricals.frown
