I've now had two IMO Jaguar Cub inverters from Transwave, who advertise on this site and in the magazines.

My first purchase was a 3A unit, a couple of years ago for a Super 7, which also included a new motor and the Remote Pendant affair, which works brilliantly. The help and advice from their MD Pete Moss has been excellent. He was able to diagnose a problem I had with it and to guide me through changing one of the parameters on the inverter, which cured the problem completely.

The second and more recent installation was a 5A unit for a Boxford 280, where rather than using their Pendant, I wanted to use and therefore rewire the existing lathe controls. Again Pete was very helpful in advising on components for this – even to giving me the Maplin part numbers.

Usual disclaimer – but it's good to be able to give some positive comments and to be able to recommend one of our suppliers.

Hi Nigel, I second your findings with Transwave. Excellent to deal with. When I bought me first lathe [still going strong] a Warco GH750 I ordered up a Eurotherm Drive [now made by Parker SSD ] from Transwave, and the unit has worked without a hitch since new [ about 2001]. I notice that they only stock what I think might be Chinese drives now. The Eurotherm was [is ] spendy, but is so reliable. I was actually going to go the Transwave route again for me DSG, but the fact that I got a drive specially built by the electronics guru's at the brothers employers meant I didn't need to. I have no experience of the drives you mention but they seem popular .

Prior to taking up the editorial blue pencil, Transwave gave me the information I needed to create my own pendant to match their motor and inverter package. I later did as Nigel has done and fitted the controls into the lathe control box.

I agree, i run my machines on the TEC motors and the transwave pendants, No complaints from me on the performance, definitely would use again if the need arose.

Can start a new thread if necessary but I have a transwave problem. I have a 15 HP rotary converter for a lathe with a 7.5 HP motor. The lathe has push button motor start – 2 buttons, slow and fast for the motor. Starts very well on slow but I am limited to about 380 rpm ( it's a DSG 17 ).The lathe is capable of double that on 'fast' motor speed. If I start using the fast button It seems to overload the boost which flickers and chatters. Starting in slow and then hitting the fast button does nought. I would have thought the power of the converter would handle it. Any suggestions welcome, – I obviously can phone transwave Tuesday but wondered if it was something obvious I was missing which is very likely as I know almost nothing about 3 phase.

Hi I took a look at Transwave stand at the Midlands show on Sunday as I am looking to upgrade my old 1962 Myford super 7.

It seems I have a choice of electric motors either a "imperial/English" motor which is a direct swap as all dimensions are the same as the original, or to go for a metric motor that involves a bit of iron fighting to get it to fit.

Can anyone care to share their experiences. I have used Newton Tesla before and found them ok. Transwave were very helpful and a tad cheaper!

Ps is it true that Ivans Laws son Mike, is involved in supplying Quorn castings?
