The only reason for 3000rpm(actually 2800rpm)is the speed of a 2 pole induction motor on 50Hz, size doesn't matter whether it's 5", 6", or 8", but an 8", or 10 "grinder is always much better as the surface speed is getting nearer to the ideal speed. In the USA a 10" grinder on 60Hz runs at 3450RPM.
