          Hi Eric

          What diameter do you want?

Google VXB steel Balls. Not cheap in larger sizes.

You can make them on the lathe. with a fairly simple to make Jig.

          Regards
          John

Depends on the scale. The SS governor balls on the engine in my avatar came from Blackgates but I don't think they do bigger than 1/2 in.

I was looking for about 6mm, Oompa Lumpa's link solves the question. Cheers

Just make sure you get the soft or stainless ones, I also use Simply bearings. Also worth going a bit larger than scale as there is proportionally more friction on a model than full size so the extra weight hepls throw them out.

On the ST 9 that I refurbished, I used ball bearings, I heated them red for a few minutes, then when cool popped them in the lathe and drilled them, pushed the arm through and riveted it over. I think they may have been 1/2", just a bit larger than the drawing size.

If you go to the garden shop, there is a good chance you may be able to get bronze, or stainless balls as spares for garden spray pumps, there are a number of sizes, 3/16"/ 5 mm, and 1/4"/ 6 mm are two that I'v seen.   Ian S C

You can buy a "fixings kit" for the Stuart governor, it includes the PB balls, spring and various fasteners. Quite expensive though, but it's an easy way of making up a governor. The balls are about 16mm.
