I have some metric taps and dies. They have no manufactures name such as Presto but only have a logo of 2 slightly overlapping triangles. Can someone enlighten me of the manufacturer and whether then would be HSS?

Yes. Triangle taps and dies were HSS. I can’t remember who the manufacturers were, but I think they were made by LAL. Others will correct me if I am wrong!

you can tell by looking at them. find one you know is HSS and one you know is CS look closely at the two and compare to your mystery ones

Triangle Brand were well known in the 60s, it was up with the best brands. Noel.

I have a set of ME taps and dies that are Triangle brand:

                Triangle

The set was a birthday present more years ago than I care to remember. The manufacturer was the British Tap & Die Company, which I think became the Tap & Die Company, and was then taken over by CR Tools in Sheffield.

I am fairly sure the taps and dies are carbon steel. Mostly I don’t use the set now as I have HSS ME taps and prefer to screwcut external ME threads.

Thanks for the replies. I have now downloaded a close up photo of the marking and its not actually triangles but more like mountains or a letter symbol?

Rusty, the double triangles that you show are definitely the trademark of Triangle taps and dies Ltd. No ifs or buts!

I have a couple of sets of triangle taps and dies. These are definitely HSS and not the carbon steel that Julie has.

                      Andrew.

Julie is correct regarding manufacturers, I have an identical set, also a birthday present over 40 years ago, they are carbon steel.

I’m used to seeing Triangle Brand taps and dies. All the ones I’ve seen have three overlapping triangles each of which has a flat “base” with the middle triangle higher (or lower, depending on the orientation) than the outer two triangles.

Can anyone show us another tap or die in a Triangle branded box that has only the two overlapping triangles with slightly curved bases on the same level as seen in rusty’s image?

On reflection and like Bill, the trade mark does not look right ? Compare the OP s photo with that in the boxed set, it doesn’t look right.  Noel.

All the above rather implies that the OP’s taps are not Triangle brand. No idea what they are though. I had a quick look through some of my taps this morning. Very, very, few have any sort of logo and none like the OP.
