Sine Vice

Hello all.

I need to buy a sine vice for a part i need to make, has anyone any recommendations of any ?

Hi Brian

The sine vice looks OK but I prefer an angle table used in the same way as the sine table, it does not restrict the size of the part being machined like a vice does. The one I have has Tee slots and tapped holes in various places so a vice can be bolted down if required.

It was made from castings many years ago to the Dave Lammas design, I beliieve it was written up in the ME magazine. You will of course have to machine the castings so requires a milling machine to make it.

They are only suitable for grinding surely ? Not robust enough for the stresses of milling ?

If you will be using the vise for milling I would suggest an angle vise intended for milling. It will not incorporate the sine feature. You can use a small sine bar to set the angle accurately, either on the mill or on a surface plate.

I wanted the vice to enable to to drill some holes at differant angles, but on reflection i think i will use a sign bar with my small vice clamped against an angle plate.
