hi caps, are there any drawings for the rainhill loco. I have looked at the back issues of ME and there are a few there for a 3.5 gauge loco. I am looking to make a 71/4 gauge. can anyone let me know how you scale it up from 3.5 to 71/4. thanks, michael

        Michael,

Fizzy's times by two and spread the wheels by an extra 1/8" each side should see you OK.

Now i might be wrong but i believe the wheels were only wooden on the rainhill rocket, subsequent rocket's had cast iron wheels??

Fizzy, According to a book i have called "After Rocket the forgotten years" by H.M.Whitcombe. nine locomotives of the Rocket class were built, the last two being Northumbrian and Majestic. All of the class were fitted with wooden wheels.

The original in the Science museum still has its wooden wheels, even if much else has changed.

I have not heard of the design and it would seem neither has anyone else,on here anyway.

Does not mean it don't exist though!

Derwent Valley Railway improved Rainhill for 7-1/4 inch gauge .

Cover picture and very brief description ME 16-31 May 1969 Vol.135 No.3369 Ken Swan .

                    Drawings may still exist .
