Chaps, i've got an Axminster x1?( tilting column version ) mill in the shed.I got it secondhand- i think i paid 200 quid for it ,with some tooling . It's not used much , mainly because the shed's a tip ,and i can't easily get to it… but its a bit naff anyway innit ?
Now, father has just passed away , and he had a Peatol mill ,which looked a bit more meaty than the x1 , though i never really took much notice of it . It was in really good condition though last time i saw it ,and slightly bigger than mine , and was it 600quid he paid for it? So it must be better than mine? I had previously bought him a Unimat 3 lathe and mill attatchment , but he got frustrated with the mill bit as it wasn't true , and he couldn't get it trammed up .He bought a new column for it but then i guess the Peatol came up for sale and he bought that . He made exquisite O gauge size loco's in brass …. grumbled if it was "a thou out " , so it must be accurate ! So which one is the best to keep ,best being toughest strongest … x1 or Peatol ? Or are they both naff…
