No wonder my swarf bucket is full

Here are two of the six split axleboxes l have just finished machining. The cast iron stock weighed in at 14lb. The six axleboxes weigh 1lb 4oz, a 91% wastage rate. I doubt if that's a record. Unless you know better.

I have some rotabroach type cutters. Where possible I use these to remove most of the metal from large holes as the waste slug out of the centre is useful raw material. I have just done some parts where some aluminium alloy slugs provided the material to make some cylindrical spacers.

I manage 100% swarf rates quite regularly but that's more usually known as scrap!!
