A bolt broke that’s used for carriage lock and I’m trying to order one and I’m crap at identifying whitworth bolts and I would appreciate a lesson in identifying whitworth bolts.

The bolt measures .298″ in diameter, it has a 18tpi thread ,what size is it please .

If it is BSW then the nearest is 5/16 x 18 , the Ø for that is 0.3125.

The only 18 tpi whitworth I can see on the chart is 5/16"

A Zeus book is an essential in any workshop. Think my last one cost around £6 it was the third one in over 50 years, the others fell apart with use.
