      Just A quick introduction.

Just signed up after reading last months mag. I’ve done precious little lathe work since leaving school in 1969 and never seen a mill work never mind use, but keen to learn. I’ve always been mesmerized by steam and when its in miniture even more so , so I’ve bought a 7 x14 lathe and I’m raring to go. Doubt it’ll be long before I get stuck and you will find me on here asking for help. (don’t ask, don’t get) so please bear with me . I will get there in the end.

      Cheers for now
      Bob

I wish this sort of forum had been to hand 14 years ago for me.

                Hi Bob
I too am a new boy to the hobby. Perhaps this is a Bob thing? I’ve had some excellent feedback and advice from the forum Jedi. I’ve started a very basic vertical engine. There are some pictures in my photo album. Even something this basic (in comparison to some projects on the site) has provided a steep learning curve. I’ve had to gather tooling, materials and practical skills, all of which I’m finding very enjoyable. So if I can offer one small piece of advice it would be plan to learn to walk before you try to run, and pick a project that is achievable .
                Regards
                Bob..

Hi and welcome. I’m a novice too and this forum has been a mine of great information and some very helpful folk.

I started with a Stuart S50 which is close to being finished but its taken me over a year because I’ve had to learn loads of new things and stop and make tools to do things and along the way I’ve discovered an enjoyment of toolmaking in its own right.

Might I suggest joining your local SME if there is one as I have had just as much help and encouragement from mine as I have here.

                  Brilliant hobby, enjoy!

                    Hi Bob
I just read your profile, and you have hit the nail on the head with your comment—
                    “SHOULD BE FUN”. Welcome.

                    Cheers Derek.

Oh no Wolfie, you've got it real bad now! That's a serious symptom.
