Last year I bought some castings for a vastly scaled-up K.N.Harris launch engine. With these bits came the ?part machined casting in the photos, can anyone identify it, or indeed suggest its intended purpose – other than a 2.8kg paperweight? The porting is unusual.
Uniflow steam engine with poppet valves on the inlets? Seem to recall some one of the steam cars described in ME in the late 50's had something like this. Don't think it would be any of the main designers of that period (LBSC, Martin Evans etc)
Looks like a Uniflow cylinder casting with the exhaust ports in the bores, going by the size it could be for the Atkinson Uniflow steam wagon by a Ray Prime I think the model was serialised in Engineering in Miniature.
I have had a look at the EIM articles on the Atkinson, regrettably that's not it. I forgot to mention that there is another casting, exactly the same but unmachined. Making a 4 cylinder uniflow?
