I have been offered a Boxford STS1020 or a Myford ML10.

Which would be the better buy

The boxford, without a doubt, provided it's in good nick.

The Boxford is a lot more complicated and may be a 3 phase supply

If it's in good nick and got it's bits and you can accomodate it then it's a very desirable purchase, a serious bit of kit

If it is, just change the motor wiring from star to delta and buy an inverter. Infinitely better than single phase.

P.S. Well perhaps not infinitely but certainly much smoother!
