lathe motor wiring.

when i swapped motor on my clarke cl430 i kept the old one.

now i want to fit it on my ml7 as it's reversible and some of bushes i make are left hand thread and would like to do it in one go.

when i moved i seemed to have lost my note book with wiring details in it.

inside motor is a terminal block two above two.

top two are labelled d4 / d3

bottom two are d1 / d2.

anyone know how to rewire it pls?

Two things to deal with here.

You don't really need a reversible motor for cutting left hand threads. You might for cutting metric threads on a machine with an imperial lead-screw. For LH threads just set your tumbler to feed the saddle towards the tail-stock.

From what I can make of the diagram in the hyperlink K1 and K2 are the run windings, D1 and D2 are the start windings. The Santon/Dewhurst (or similar) switch would be wired to reverse the phase relationship of the two windings to change the direction of motor rotation.

it doesn't have leadscrew it's a capstan lathe.

just realised i put ml7 my wrong it's an ml6.

I'm not overly familiar with an ML6 but if it uses screw-on work holding collets/chucks (like the ML7 and S7) I'd be hesitant about cutting LH threads (presumably from turret tools). Without some sort of positive lock the possibility exists of the chuck unscrewing half way through the job.
