        Hi all,

        And for my debut post….

After a lucky spot on Facebook this weekend, I’m now the proud owner of an ancient but rather magnificent looking Kerry Super 8 drill. It needs a good clean up and restore, but it all works – and it doesn’t rattle, only missing parts are some broken ball knobs.

Does anyone know what threads this old drill would be? BSF or UNF?

        many thanks in advance

        Andy

If English, probably BSW or BSF

Hello Andrew and welcome. Regarding your balls!; do you have any thread gauges or even some screws or bolts. Comparing the threads on the Kerry with some screws should narrow it down a bit. Even if you only have Metric bolts, you should be able to confirm that the the handles on the Kerry are not metric.

            This might be of use;

              that’s the badger Brian!

‘Kerry Super 8 Drill Mk. 1 with the standard 11" diameter round table’. Even more amazing, as it looks much older than me, only a couple of 3/16” holes in the centre of the table.

alas, I cleared out all nearly my imperial stuff when I came off the tools in the 90’s. Time to buy some Imperial thread gauges.

Glad you found the right one Andrew. That site is always my first call for machinery related items.

                    Andrew,

I think you got a very good buy there. It looks as though all the right bits are still there, and it should clean up very well. I bought my Kerry Super 8 over 20 years ago in rather worse condition than yours, with some missing parts, but after a rebuild it has been a very faithful companion, and I would never sell it. The rotating table is very useful, and together with the column clamp makes it very easy to reposition work clamped to the table. I also added an indexing feature so I could use the table for drilling accurate hole circles. Picture of my machine below.

                    enjoy

                    Mike

Andrew, I agree with Mike, looks like you've landed a good'un. Mike's picture should spur you on.

I love those drills, I used to have 4 of them but now down to 2. One I recently restored on my YouTube channel.

I'd never sell it, it's just too good especially when compared to new foreign items.

                            really helpful video Adam.

didn’t realise a press was needed to rebuild it, I do now!

new tables are unobtanium. Big lathe faceplate?

Mine came many years ago but someone had removed the second speed gear, not bad for £50 – – – -together with a Manchester Rapidor a thrown in.

                              Regards Ian.

Found an old early 50’s ME with a review of a Super 8.

Half a thou spindle run out? That’s accuracy a Chinese pillar drill can only dream of.
