Now that you are living out in the sticks, I guess you have to improvise. devil

That looks cool! I've been trimming the length of a carbon fibre tube recently holding it in a lathe collet rotating slowly and using an abrasive disc in my Proxxon – I wonder if this would do the job? Wouldn't get abrasive dust on the lathe for one thing.

Fascinating. on wood you can see it scorching and burning away.

Watch your finger with this, a paper cut really hurts.

Indeed…and the paper disc will cut skin far more easily than a conventional abrasive cutting disc.

I used to work on large printing machines and the paper used to cut through tool steel!

Doesn't surprise me – many papers are finished using minerals such as calcium carbonate or clay, and so will be abrasive.

Apparently the stitching on early cloth covered aircraft could cut through internal bracing wires if allowed to fret together.

I went to a demo of an early laser line printer many years ago, a big machine for printing high volume stuff like bank statements and utility bills. The fan-fold paper went through the printer so fast that it caught fire. It made quite an impression.

Anyone else noticed that demonstrations are much more likely to go wrong than real life, and that the probability of an embarrassing disaster is directly proportional to the importance of the guest?
