Can I import an Stl file into Alibre Atom 3D as I have had a casting digital scanned and can open it with 3D viewer but would like to use it in Alibre.

No. You would be better off having the scan saved as a Step file.

There are a few work arounds if you google but not the best option.

There are free Stl to STEP converters online. (use a reputable one and I always scan any files that are downloaded for viruses)

There is a good (free) STL to STEP conversion utility available via the Alibre user forum.  It was produced by a UK user, and is available as an ‘Add-on’ which will work in Atom3D in addition to higher levels of the software.

You’ll likely find any resulting STEP file of limited use though.  One big challenge from scans is getting a resulting mesh which is watertight, and hence valid in a solid modelling system.
