I am after a 4 Jaw Independent chuck for my ML7. Does anyone know the history of the Burnerd chucks that were made for the Myford ML7 / Super 7. Some seem to have different logos, no logos etc. I assume it was change over time. Any idea which ones are the later versions? I have read a few post and a bit of info on lathes.co.uk but no real definitive stuff on this.
“Burnerd Model 34M logo” Red and blue logo.

“Burnerd Catalogue No. 1548-16130 Iron Body” – Green logo.

      No Logo just marked “1548-16130”

Have also seen a few other variants.

Can this be done with the logo?

Hi Can't answer your question regarding the logos etc but I'm sure someone will do os, however as far as I know there were broadly 2 types of 4 jaw independent supplied.

One with a conventional backplate fitted to fix it to the spindle and the other was purpose made with a screwed body — i.e. no backplate and the chuck fitted directly onto the machine spindle. The advantage of the screwed body is less overhang and it maximises the distance to the tailstock.

Hope this helps a little John

While my 4 jaw is on a Boxford. There is no logo just the type number as in your last photo. That I bought in 1986

            Regards Barry

Hmm… That helps and makes sense now that I think of it, perhaps the later type had no logo – I notice most of the new ones from today (not necessarily for Myford) don't seem to have logos.

+ 1 for No Logo just marked “1548-16130”

I also have a 5" 4 jaw by Bison marked 4304 – 125 which, unlike the light pattern Pratt Burnerd item, needed a backplate but is made so as to allow the backplate to sit partly within the chuck body with the result that the chuck projects only half an inch more than the PB.
