      Gentlemen,

I assume that like me most of you have a vacuum in your workshops for tidying up.

I have a cheap Tesco's model which has disposable bags and I can get through them when busy machining so I've found away of making them reusable, I've bought a packet of paper binders which slip onto say twenty sheets of paper to form a hinge.

I cut the folded and glued bottom off my vacuum bags and slide the binder in its place so that when the bag is full I slide the binder off empty the bag and refit it to use the bag again.

I use a wet/dry vacuum in the workshop. They have a larger dia hose and can suck up swarf and spilt coolant.and have a 20+ litre storage drum. Just empty the drum when full and no bags needed.

You will find the bags clog up and the vacuum loses its suck. Didn't stop me doing the same trick when we had a bag vacuum, but need to replace now and again. I now have an ancient Hoover Aquamaster which has both a crude cyclone and a cloth bag. Made the mistake of washing the bag once, had a bit of a job getting another, but now I just batter it on a tree with me upwind to clear it out.

Or, to paraphrase an old saying, "A vacuum bag, a dog, and a walnut tree the more you beat them the better they be".
