      Good morning fellow metal bashers,

I came across something which might be of interest to others.

A friend uses a form of inhaler to assist with his breathing. This unit consists of a small air compressor with a facemask. The mask is fitted with a small plastic container which contains a very useful spring, 20mm dia x130mm long,x1,5 mm..

These units are disposed of after a number of uses, everything dumped out.

I have collected quite a few of these springs, no use for them as yet, but it seems a pity to just throw them away [when you live in the sticks, you throw NOTHING away ]

I thought I would just mention it in case others might not be aware of it and might have a use for them.

        Well done, Larry

Were you an avid watcher of the Wombles ?

… I sense the spiritual connection.

I love the idea of squirreling stuff away, just in case it might “come in handy one day”.  But have yet to master the art of “now where did I put it?”.  Sound familiar?

I have a sizeable collection of liquid-soap pumps hoarded for their springs, though I have occasionally used the pumps intact for water or for liquids like penetrating-fluid.

I know where they are – in a tub ‘twixt loo and washbasin – but otherwise I sometimes spend more time looking for something than using it!

IMG_1038A good friend of mine ran a skip lorry business in partnership with a scrapyard. He was always hoarding stuff that seemed useful. At one point he ended up with five bags of small wheels thinking they were too good to chuck away. Some years later a number of them got used on my mate Barrie’s telescope dome and recently after his death when the observatory was rebuilt and moved to Burwell museum the surplus acted as spares.

Paul the hoarder was also one of the founder members of the museum.
